What is Moor Onsen, selected as Hokkaido heritage?

Originated in ancient plants deep in the ground

Tokachi-gawa Onsen flows “hot spring of Moor” to the earth’s surface which is rare in Japan.
Plant such as reed has grown naturally at the riverside of Tokachi River in time immemorial.
These plants are accumulate for long time,
and hot spring is gushing out from underground through lignite layer.
That is the “hot spring of Moor” which contains rich in botanical organic substances.

HOKKAIDO HERITAGE

Selected as Hokkaido heritage

Moor Onsen, botanical hot spring, is rare spring quality in the world compared to common mineral spring. It is very limited and valuable resource for hot spring. As the initiative in other hot spring facilities in Hokkaido, it has been selected as Hokkaido heritage in 2004. It was said generation to generation by Ainu that Tokachi-gawa Onsen was a marsh of medicine, so it had started developing in a big way since early Showa period. After World War II, it had grown as one of the representative Onsen in east area of Hokkaido, and many tourists from inside and outside of Hokkaido has been visiting today. Now, this valuable onsen resources has been protecting by local people.

Moor Onsen is alkalinity hot spring which contains abundant lignite and humic substances, and the name of Moor comes from humic substances in Garman.

Moor Onsen is called as Bijin-no-yu, hot spring of beauty, amber color hot spring moisturized your skin soft and smoothly. It is also named as skin lotion from nature.
Spring quality includes sodium chloride and sodium hydrogen carbonate (hypotonic alkalescent and high temperature water) and indications of bathing are nerve pain, muscle ache, arthralgia, stiff and painful shoulder, recovery from fatigue, health enhancement, excessive sensitivity to cold, cut, burn injury, and etc.
